Austrian Chancellor says EU embargo on Russian gas "impossible"

Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer said on Thursday that an embargo on Russian gas in the European Union (EU) is "impossible" due to EU countries' heavy dependence on Russian energy.

Nehammer's comments came after a meeting with visiting Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban in Vienna.

According to Austrian news agency APA, Nehammer said at a press conference that Germany and Austria's dependence on Russian gas makes an EU embargo "impossible," as the decline of the German economy would also impact Austria and lead to mass unemployment.

On Tuesday, EU member states agreed on a 15-percent voluntary reduction of natural gas demand from the average of 2017-2021, in preparation for possible supply disruptions this winter.

"We are seeing many announcements by the European Commission but very little implementation," he added.

Shipping LNG from US to EU could be considered a provocative act of war by Russia.

It’s all part of the game to fail. Yep, when they fail the great reset takes place and you will own nothing and they will command you to be happy.

The fate of the criminals who rule the Ukraine has never been of any moment to Americans. Putin is a thug but so is Zelensky and he’s locking up political opponents again as we speak.

Some badly needed truth serum from Scott Ritter on Judging Freedom.

I highly recommend it...great explanation for the origination of why America hates Russia. Very good look at the actual situation of Russia’s and our military. “We spend $800 billion a year on defense; Russia spends $48 billion and our army could not defeat Russia’s.”

Very sobering.

--- "Shipping LNG from US to EU could be considered a provocative act of war by Russia."

It would not meet demand. Clausewitz's observation in 1832 that policy -- trade is assuredly under that heading -- is a means and war is another means for advancing policy aims. Whatever one thinks of the Ukraine / Russia conflict, it is assured that the sanctions packages from the EU Commission and a "neocon" Biden administration were also a war "with other means." And so have many comments referring to this as a proxy war modeled on the old Cold War era. Clausewitz suggested clear diplomacy should be pursued in the midst of "other means," while it seems the Zelensky administration has basically expected the West to respond with ever increasing calls for money, money and money. As the sanctions fail, Realpolitik is being expressed by some within the EU. "Let's you and he fight" has been neither war winning, diplomatic nor good business.

Yup. The sanctimonious sanctioners stepped on their own dicks.

Some European companies now sell turbines with ceramic guts, so what used to use 50 gal of oil every maintenance cycle, now only uses 5 gal.

The only way for citizens of the US and EU to win this game was to refuse to play. However, their globalist overlords are determined that every knee shall bow.

Europe does not have the LNG infrastructure to accept the amounts necessary to keep their economies going. And no, Russia would not consider such shipments an act of war.

This article should be clearly attributed to the Chinese Communist news agency Xinhua, rather than the website that posted it.

They edit out that the Chancellor was referring to an immediate embargo.

Of course a phase out is feasible on some schedule, and it is underway at an historically rapid rate. From 45% of Europe’s natural gas supply last year, Russia is down to just 15% already.

It is an epic shift away from Russian supply.

Just a reminder that by treaty Austria cannot join NATO, as a condition for the Soviet leaving their zone of occupation.

TASS
The United States sent a request to the Russian Federation about a telephone conversation between Lavrov and Blinken, but so far they cannot report on the timing of the conversation.

The US Secretary of State, during a conversation with the Russian Foreign Minister, wants to raise the issue of Russia’s possible plans for territories in Ukraine, the State Department said.

Lavrov will pay special attention to the request to speak with the US Secretary of State when time permits, Zakharova said.
