Unfortunately, NY Election Law requires a voter changing party affiliation to have been enrolled in the party one year before voting in that party’s primary election.
By the way, all those Red states that allow “open” primaries should change their laws to prohibit this meddlesome practice, notwithstanding the hilarity of Rush’s Operation Chaos!
Maybe the 1 year deadline applies in a typical year, but not this time:
“Because of the Democratic Party’s gerrymandering debacle, there is no deadline for re-enrolling in a political party for the Aug. 23 primary, which means voters can change their party registration at the voting booth on primary day by filling out an affidavit ballot.”
