If I recall correctly, Americans are legally prohibited from owning property in Mexico.

Any foreigner is prohibited from owning, buying or selling property in Mexico.

Foreigners are not allowed to vote either. And every six months foreigners living in Mexico have to register every six months as a foreign national.

Americans can’t buy beachfront property. But you can buy houses in Mexico. Sometimes a house that you buy is on land that you lease, 99 years.
