Lie! I’ve been opposed to illegal immigration since I was a kid in California back in the 1950s. Back then, my primary reason was because illegal immigration was an insult to my mother, who was a LEGAL immigrant, who played by the rules and did everything by the book. And, you know what? When she became an American citizen she wept. Wept! She was so happy and so proud to become an American citizen. Then, with her citizenship paper in hand she went and registered to vote as an American citizen in the 1960 election (she voted for Nixon).
