In that respect he's correct. Even Biblically there were plenty of bad Jewish leaders who did horrible things in war and otherwise. Identiy Politics doesn't cut it anywhere even though that card is often pulled.

But what you and he are doing is merely reverse identity politics. There were bad Jewish leaders in the past. Therefore, Zelensky is a Nazi and the proof is that he’s Jewish. When he puts linguistic Russians in a ghetto, makes them wear a special badge, and/or starts cattle cars rolling towards death camps, call me.
It also shows ignorance of recent Ukrainian history. After Yanukovitch walked away from the European deal and instead signed a deal with Russia, triggering the Maidan uprising, he was deposed and skeedaddled to Moscow in the middle of the night.
He was replaced by Poroshenko, and at the same time Russia invaded Crimea and sent in the DPR as its proxy to wage war in Donbas. So far? Poroshenko then waged all-out war on Donbas, saying that “our children will go to school while theirs huddle for safety in their basements...that’s why we will win this war.” Bastardly thing to say. You might make an argument that he was a Nazi, but like I said, even Poroshenko didn’t have cattle cars, extermination camps, badges of shame or ghettos, so while the Azov Battalion did some nasty stuff, typical of a civil war, and did wear insignia reminiscent of the Nazis, the charge of “Nazi” remains on very thin ice.
Enter Zelensky. He’s a linguistic Russian himself, as his sir-name and history attests. Sluga Narodu (Servant of the People) is recorded almost entirely in Russian. Prior to Sluga Narodu, his comedy troupe toured Mongolia and Russia and were big hits there. And he finally switched from show biz to politics on a platform of cleaning out corruption and making peace in Donbas. He failed in both endeavors, because he was too inexperienced and naive to do either. He yielded too much to Putin to come out of negotiations with a peace agreement that Ukrainians in general, and the Azov/Poroshenko faction especially to accept. As for corruption, it’s too ubiquitous in Ukraine for a neophyte politician to even stay clear of, let alone clean out.
So, then, what to do with the militant Ukrainian nationalists who stymied his attempts to surrender too much to Putin? He took the Azov Battalion and converted it from a local militia into a part of the national military, in the process recruiting all the soccer toughs and barroom brawlers who wanted to be a part of it because they were kick-a@@ fighters in spite of everything, and who didn’t care about any nebulous “Nazi” ideologues at its core in Mariupol; they wanted to defend Ukraine, and wanted no part of any socialism, national or otherwise. That Mariupol core has now surrendered, if they ever were Nazis. What’s left is the national organization using their name and insignia, which is basically soccer toughs and barroom brawlers who want to defend their country and also fight a lot.
So much for the whole “Zelensky is a Nazi” narrative. Reminds me of the log vs. splinter metaphor, and as long as we’re referring to the New Testament, why not figure out the good guys from the bad guys by their fruits as well. Invading other countries is what Nazis do. Targeting civilian areas is what Nazis do. Putting your own country above all others and not caring what horrific things you do to others is what Nazis do. And accusing others of the very thing you are guilty of is what Nazis do. Putin is the Nazi. Zelensky is a hapless savant. Utterly mediocre as a politician in most situations, and in above his head. But as a war leader, he happens to have it going on, which is why Ukraine is still in the fight, almost six months later, against overwhelming odds. Give him points for courage, and stop making stupid noises about democracy. No, he’s not about democracy, but he is about Ukrainian national sovereignty and fighting a war. That’s all he needs to be about. The rest of his act needs work, and whatever help the West provides Ukraine needs to be within the boundaries of a proxy war, not a holy crusade for “democracy,” a concept so foreign to Foe Brandon and friends that it’s sickening to hear him overcompensate for his dictatorial behavior by repeating it like some damned mantra. It’s also foreign to Zelensky, Ukraine, Eastern Europe, Russia and Putin, and totally irrelevant to the conflict in Ukraine.
