GOP warms to far-right gubernatorial nominee in Pennsylvania

Republicans are warming up to Doug Mastriano.

When he crushed a nine-person field to win the GOP nomination for Pennsylvania governor in May, some in the party warned that Mastriano's far-right views on everything from abortion to the 2020 presidential election would squander an otherwise attainable seat in a critical battleground state. But now, as the general election season intensifies, the GOP machinery is cranking up to back Mastriano's campaign and attack his Democratic rival, Josh Shapiro.

Mastriano spoke in Aspen, Colorado, last week at an event with donors sponsored by the Republican Governors Association. At the GOP's “Rally at the Rock” campaign event in northern Pennsylvania earlier this month, the independently elected state treasurer, Stacy Garrity, introduced Mastriano as “our next governor." County offices and booths are festooned with his campaign signs and he spoke at this month's closed-door state party meeting. And on Wednesday, a pair of top party officials are hosting a fundraiser for Mastriano.

Golly gee, their internal polls must be showing something they're not telling the people.

I guess Charlie Dent's Never-Mastriano group didn't have much affect.

On to November!

We had boring “safe” moderates run for President for a long time and we safely didn’t win in Pennsylvania. We ran Trump and Reagan and we won it. Run someone worth a damn and you can win or at least go down swinging with some self respect instead of being someone The NY Times can be pleased with (they still won’t vote for them but they will approve of your surrender candidates).

We need Mastriano to win, so he can name Fetterman’s replacement after he dies.

I fully support Mastriano for Governor of the Commonwealth.

Don’t believe it… the PA GOP will do everything in their power to keep him from winning…

They will do nothing more that some minor public support for the cameras while behind the scenes undercut him at every turn.

He has to win in spite of the PA GOP

These same people who would probably label AOC and Omar as “moderate left”.

I gather, from reading that screed, that he holds standard conservative values, is a Christian, and is not a RINO or Dim-lite. No wonder he is hated. Odd, I would think he would be popular in Texas, but then Houston is no longer Houston.

right wing believes in 80 genders rather than 89. FARRIGHT believes in 70 genders or less.

Note that the “press” never describes someone like Fetterman or Schumer or Pelosi by putting “far left” in front of their names. Its always an “extreme”, “far right” Republican like Mastriano.

I think he WILL win despite them, and they are seeing the writing on the wall, and, being finger-in-the-wind types, they’re trying to get on the bandwagon they said they didn’t like.

Well that's a switch. You dump on oz because Trump supported him, but support Mastriano?

Where is the logic?

...some in the party warned that Mastriano’s far-right views

Typical MSM reporting. “Some”? Who? And has a leftist rag *ever* described any Dem candidate as “far left”?

Your premise is incorrect.

Dr Azz won because Trump/Hannity used communist Democrat tactics to squash Kathy Barnette with lies that Hannity repeated nightly while not allowing her to come on any of his shows to address the claims.

That makes Dr Azz an illegitimate candidate and undeserving of my vote, regardless the outcome.

Mastriano ran a good campaign and won cleanly while standing up for clear conservative and constitutional issues (unlike Dr Azz).

If Trump runs in 2024, he will not get my support in the primary due to his endorsing of a gun control, pro-grooming, carpet-bagger leftist named Dr Azz.

Exactly.

I was just thinking how sick I am of MSM news outlets use of descriptors. Conservatives are always referred to as “FAR” right or radical right or fundamentalists. By definition conservatives are not radicals, they try to keep things the same…to conserve.

Words are powerful.

“Mastriano’s far-right views on everything from abortion to the 2020 presidential election”

Even in most THIRD WORLD countries, election integrity is NOT a ‘far right’ issue.

Sorry, lived in this state for nearly 40 years now, don’t believe a word of this crap... not one single word of it.

This is just show for the cameras....

What you saw them do to Kathy Barnette in the closing weeks of the Senate Primary is WHO THESE PEOPLE ARE.... and have always been.

Do not think for one single, solitary second that they will EVERY do anything to help him win.. and if he should win, they will do everything they can behind the scenes to undercut him while smiling for the camera’s and pretending to support him.

The establishment GOP of PA are swamp creatures, every last one of them. They have were active participants in the 2020 fraud and theft, do not kid yourself for one solitary second they are anything else.

PA Legislature has been controlled by the GOP for all but 4 years since 1995.. And those 4 years they only lost the house, that was it.. They have controlled both houses all but 4 of the last 27 years, and have been in complete control of the legislature and the governorship 12 out of those 27 years..

PA is the mess it is, because of the GOP establishment here, they have ZERO interest in conservatism or conservatives, other than to show up and vote for them, once elected they will do nothing. it’s not an accident that PA has the highest gas taxes in the country, or that the massive fraud here was aided and abbedded here by the GOP of PA.
