Tide slowly turning in Ukraine, but Putin shows no sign of quitting
Washington Examiner ^ | July 25, 2022 | Jamie McIntyre

‘A DISTINCT TURNING POINT’: In Ukraine, the signs of a subtle battlefield shift are everywhere as President Volodymyr Zelensky announces the beginning of a counteroffensive in the south and Pentagon officials make plans to continue the flow of weapons for months to come.

“We are there for Ukraine for the long haul,” said a senior defense official in the latest Pentagon briefing, who described the Russian advances as stymied by effective Ukrainian tactics and newly arrived HIMARS precision rocket systems, which have forced Russian forces to dig in and hide high-value targets. “They're paying a high price for every inch of territory that they try to take or hold, and we're seeing very low morale from the Russian forces,” the official said.

The Washington-based Institute for the Study of War cites growing alarm in the “Russian nationalist information space,” noting Moscow Calling, a telegram channel, described the arrival of HIMARS as “a distinct turning point in the war” that has “changed everything.”

“Moscow Calling strongly insinuated that recent Ukrainian strikes on Russian warehouses, communication hubs, and rear bases are having a devastating and potentially irreversible impact on the development of future Russian offensives,” the ISW says. “Russian troops are being forced to engage in various HIMARS mitigation tactics on the battlefield, including camouflage measures and constantly changing the location of equipment groupings. These mitigation tactics are impeding Russian forces from conducting the massive artillery barrages that they have widely employed over the course of the war.”

How can Ukraine be getting the momentum just now when according to the media they’ve won every battle so far and are kicking Russian butt all over the place?

RE: the Ukes don’t impress me as an independent nation

Seems to me the Ukrainians don't want to be under the thumb of Putin's Russia...and they are willing to fight, and die for their freedom. That in itself is admirable.

Timid Biden Administration announced they are not sending ATACMS. Maybe they’ll change their mind later. Has happened before. In the beginning they were even taking off fire control from m777s before sending them over.

Obama refused to even send TOW-2s and fired Gen. Breedlove for putting a deal together where Pakistan would have sold them.

Sorry, the tide hasn’t turned. Russia captured another power plant yesterday that they’ve been fighting over for weeks. Ukraine soldiers taken POWs are saying they have no little armor and nothing but small arms left. Most troops that are left are green and are being brought up from the west. This is turning into a slaughter. As one POW said, ‘no one wants to be on the front line.”

It doesn’t matter how many HIMARS or Javelins we send, the Ukrainian Army has seen little but defeat since the start of this war.

Turning point in the war... I’ve heard this weekly for the last 5 months. Hopefully the annihilate each other and a new country emerges.

HIMARS may be a great weapon, but so far there’s a 25% attrition rate (4 units out already) in one month. Much like the 777 artillery, having something new and shiny on a battlefield just makes for an attractive target.

Yep. Russia is winning bigly I have been told, yeah right. mass surrenders of Ukrainians, surrounded, caldrons, cut off, no ammo, all going down in two weeks or so 16 weeks ago. All of the ukrainian coast captured any day now, Ukraine losing 1000 troops a day for the last 100 days...blah blah blah If so why hasnt Russia met its objectives? Any gains Russia is making is incremental and at a very high cost.... Looks more like a stalemate to me.

Has Russia run out of ammo yet? It’s been more than 3 days since March 4th.

Not yet, but let's throw out more BS to cover up the last propogana that totally flopped.

Let's see. Here are a few that we may want to resurrect....

-Putin has terminal cancer and is really dead
-Russian army is losing a colonel a day
-Russia's army is losing a general every other day
-Ghost of Kyiv shot down over 40 Russian jets
-Russian army was destroyed at Kyiv
-Russia colluded with Trump and forced hookers to pee on his bed
-Russia will never take Mariupol
-Russia stole our elections
-Russia has lost 60,000 men
-Western sanctions will send Russia back to the stone age
-HIMARS is a real "game changer" for Zelensky the clown

There's more. Much more, but you get the idea.

In the meantime, the red on this map (click) keeps on growing, growing and growing.

The truth is hard to hide! Especially for those who want to find it.

I am skeptical of any article that quotes from the Washington based Institute for the Study of War.

The Institute for the Study of War was founded by Kimberly Kagan, sister of Robert Kagan, husband of Victoria Nuland.

Victoria Nuland is currently Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs in the Biden administration.

This is the same Victoria Nuland that confirmed there were bio labs in Ukraine. Just drop “Victoria Nuland biolabs” into your favorite search engine to see for yourself.

The Institute for the Study of War is about as deep into the deep state as you can get.

This type of reporting does not help the Washington Examiner’s credibility.

Spend as much time analyzing the situation in Ukraine as you spend trying to analyze ME and you might arrive at something resembling enlightenment....

The Russians are going low tech WWI in their advance, burning through train loads of artillery to turn everything to rubble. Sustainable?
