MOSCOW (Reuters) -Russia tightened its gas squeeze on Europe on Monday as Gazprom said supplies through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline to Germany would drop to just 20% of capacity.
Gazprom said flows would fall to 33 million cubic metres per day from 0400 GMT on Wednesday - a halving of the current, already reduced level - because it needed to halt the operation of a Siemens gas turbine at a compressor station on instructions from an industry watchdog.
Germany said it saw no technical reason for the latest reduction, which comes as Russia and the West exchange economic blows in response to what Moscow calls its special military operation in Ukraine.
President Vladimir Putin had foreshadowed the latest cut, warning the West this month that continued sanctions risked triggering catastrophic energy price rises for consumers around the world.
Russia had already cut flows through Nord Stream 1 to 40% of capacity in June, citing the delayed return of a turbine that was being serviced by Siemens Energy in Canada - an explanation that Germany rejected as spurious.

President Trump warned Europe not to trust the Russians. They did not listen and are now suffering the consequences.

Careful, Vlad. We don’t want to provoke that German warrior race.

“Didn’t see that coming.”
Good sarcasm. I added to my nat gas stock holdings recently. Between Russia and 6-8% dividends, they look interesting.

Many Europeans see their own possible future in the following as a motivation to get through the winter with less gas.

“Germany said it saw no technical reason for the latest reduction”
Somebody is lying.
FRANKFURT, July 25 (Reuters) - Siemens Energy (ENR1n.DE) said on Monday a turbine that Moscow says is limiting capacity on the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline was ready to be delivered, but Russia’s Gazprom (GAZP.MM) needed to provide customs documents for the transfer to go ahead.
“The transportation of the turbine could start immediately. The German authorities provided Siemens Energy with all the necessary documents for the export of the turbine to Russia at the beginning of last week,” the company said.

Yes, President Trump warned the EU and the UK, not to rely overly on Russian natural gas and other stuff.
The US, under President Trump, became a net exporter of fuels to the world and at-home energy independent.
I don't believe President Trump (may be wrong), said the word "trust" in relation to Russian-EU-UK energy policy or relations.
At the national security level, "trust" is foolish and pollyana and historically-ignorant and more-often-than-not dangerously naive.
Putting all your eggs in to one basket, when you own the basket (like the US, for the most part), is ok.
But when you don't own your own basket and are reliant on someone else to put goodies in your basket, well, then "trust" comes into the equation.
And while there continue to be good "relations" between nations, even those of differing ideologies, one does not often go to war with their trading partners, especially in the West, for their own national security interests.
Enter Muh Ukraine Sanctions.
The US and EU (and so-called "intelligence" agencies) believed that historically, the Soviet Union/CIS/Russian Federation, would see that money and blue jeans and Coca-Cola(tm) would override anything like national security interests, national survival, perceptions of being attacked on all sides, national ideology, national religion et al.
They were all wrong. Wrong not only with a bullet, but nucular weapons wrong.
The EU laughed at President Trump when he rightly advised them against dependence on anyone, especially Russia.
Gas export from Russia goes from approximately 100% to 20% and falling, in about 6 months. 20% may be nothing in a hot summer, but <20% in the coming winter, with no alternatives in sight or production or building?
Gonna be a cold dark hungry angry Winter in the Northern Hemisphere.
