There is considerable suspicion that TWA800 was downed by a sub launched SAM.
“There is considerable suspicion that TWA800 was downed by a sub launched SAM.”
And there is considerable suspicion that it was downed by a terrorist launch just off Long Island, as it was mistaken for an El Al flight.
And there is considerable suspicion that it was brought down by a bomb on board.
Suspicion is fun for late night talk radio programs, or “What ifs” over beers; but they remain just that: Creative or immaginative possibilities (which is the definition of “suspicion”).
There was no US sub identified as being off Long Island. There is no evidence at all of a sub-launched missile. Think about it for a second: Long Island and vicinity are full of commercial air traffic from NYC. No US test or exercise would fire off SAMs anywhere near a recognized high-traffic commercial corridor.
