Just picking up on the original NFA-34 intent.
Few now know or care that the original NFA-34 intended to ban civilian hand-guns.
Self interest of legislators not wanting to have to give up THEIR OWN pistols got it amended.
You can look up a LOT of the history surrounding the NFA-34 and BATFE’s criminal past here, http://www.nfaoa.org
No longer interactive but still a great reference library for research.

Near as I can tell, revolvers should qualify as semiauto pistols, making the first semiauto pistol date from around 1840 or thereabouts....

Democrats are trying to jin up the gun grabbers and abortionists in a desperate attempt to keep control of the house.
The problem is people who vote because of gun control issues most likely are voting against gun control.
People who vote for politicians who support gun control want goodies from the government, gun control just may or may not come along with said goodies.

Imo, if at this point a ban or not a ban makes a difference to anyone they should turn in the firearms they already own.

I'm surely no constitutional scholar but it seems to me that the SCOTUS decision of a few years ago in "Caetano v Massachusetts" (a 9-0 decision,BTW) pretty much makes this piece of cr@p unconstitutional from the very start.
But Rat Party Headquarters doesn't care about constitutionality. They just pass a law knowing that it will take years for it to be overturned...and then they pass another.
