Firefighters tackling blazes which have ripped through homes and buildings in London have described the conditions as "absolute hell" on what is the UK's hottest day on record.

Residents were evacuated, people were taken to hospital and a major incident was declared by the London Fire Brigade (LFB) which was "under immense pressure" after a "huge surge" in blazes across the capital as temperatures topped 40C (104F) for the first time.

Now who would be likely to want to take advantage of the heat to make a political statement about “global warming?” Would anyone really be so radical as to set a bunch of fires for the sake of publicity? Blame it all on “climate change?” Fires don’t start by themselves.

My first thought as well. Next I go to arson and accident.

Must be miserable. According to friends I have in Leeds, most homes in Britain do not have air conditioning.

Hot, dry [+low air humidity] and windy goes to extreme risk of fire where I live.

England is not used to that, I don’t think.

Yes. Hot weather doesn’t cause fires.

“and the loons over there really fall for the global warming nonsense..”

They ignore similar heat waves in the 1910’s and 50’s.

Hot weather doesn’t cause fires.

Broken glass, discarded disposable barbecues, cigarette ends, all the other incendiary detritus on the parched grass of an urban park most certainly does, however. And London is full of grassy urban parks. Nothing from any of the fire services to suggest any of this has been deliberate.

Nowhere in the UK got anywhere near 100° on those occasions.

the fact that every day over there so far this summer has been normal temps...now for these 2 days, suddenly its climate change??...really?...2 day climate change?....ridiculous. Climate is the TYPE of weather a country has...arid, tropical, temperate, etc....not day to day weather....

It gets into the 100s every year in Spain, and England is just a France away. All it takes is a perfect weather pattern and all that heat gets to England.

I picked Bristol England as a typical southern England town and looked at its average temperature for the last many decades.

http://www.bristolweather.org/30year_ave_temp.htm

The average temperature for July hasn’t changed much the entire time. The variance is small and the average temp in 1991 is almost exactly the same as 2020.
