I spent 7 years in the Navy Reserve and 2 of those were active overseas. The food was VERY good by any measure and tastefully served 3 times a day. Almost made me want to reup! Almost.

By the time I got to Germany, I had 13 years in the Air Force. I was used to decent food at USAF facilities. I ate a few times at the Army dining hall in Germany. It was about the worst food I ever tasted. I thought, so this is how the Army treats their people. I never tried another Army dining hall.

I ate at a Fleet Activities cafeteria style facility run by Japanese staff 24 years after WWII was over.

They did an outstanding job. The food was great and served very tastefully.

The worst thing I ever had to tolerate was occasionally some OLD Japanese man serving the food in the cafeteria line along with a dozen others would get a little belligerent with one of the GI’s. We would all laugh and that would just make him madder.
