I studied German with umlauts but I still have to figure out how to type one. I have a list of diacritics on a document on my hard drive. But if I'm too lazy to retrieve it, I'll just Duckduckgo a word containing a diacritic and then steal it from a website.

Two ways:
Install a German keyboard preference [or other language with umlaut].
Or the lazy man's way [I use this] - find a page you know has the umlauted vowel, and copy & paste it into your post.
