He has millions of Political Offspring.
And Political Siblings.
He knew he couldn’t take that money with it: It wasn’t about the money. It was about Honor.
I understand it’s a nebulous concept: Honor.
Some religions grossly abused/abuse that concept.
Some civilizations grossly abused/abuse that concept.
He believed in his word being his bond.
Simple enough for him to live by.
Simply enough for even someone life myself to understand.
Many vile and evil men/women have biological offspring: That in itself is nothing if his life was not honorable. The biological offspring carries upon its shoulder its own weight.
