Former President Donald Trump holds a strong lead among Texas Republican primary voters in a hypothetical 2024 GOP primary race, a CWSResearch/DefendTXLiberty survey released this week found.

“If the upcoming 2024 Republican Primary for president were held today, and the candidates were Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, Ron DeSantis, Greg Abbott, Glenn Youngkin, Nikki Haley, and Mike Pence, for whom would you vote?” the survey asked.

Trump holds a strong lead with 45 percent support — 19 percent ahead of his closest challenger, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), who came in second with 26 percent support. That number speaks to DeSantis’s growing popularity nationwide, as just four percent of Texas Republicans surveyed chose their own Gov. Greg Abbott (R) as their top choice.

Nine percent are undecided, while six percent chose former Vice President Mike Pence. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley each garnered 5%.

The survey also asked respondents who they would support if Trump failed to participate in the 2024 election. In that scenario, DeSantis takes a commanding lead with 56 percent support. Sen. Cruz is the only other potential candidate who garnered double digit support with 12 percent.

2024 Texas Republican Primary Poll:

Trump 45%
DeSantis 26%
Pence 6%
Cruz 5%
Haley 5%
Abbott 4%
Youngkin 0%
.
Without Trump:
DeSantis 56%
Cruz 12%
Pence 8%
Abbott 8%
Haley 5%
Youngkin 1%@CWS_Research/@DefendTXLiberty ~ 1,918 LV ~ 7/9-7/10https://t.co/ifytcQUvL1

The survey was taken July 9-10, 2022, among 1,918 Texas respondents who voted in the 2022 Republican primary or Republican primary runoff election, and has a +/- 2.2 percent margin of error. It coincides with several other surveys showing Trump as the dominant potential contender in

It is his for the taking.

He will have a whole lot of ammo to use against the rats, not hearsay, but real world in your face failure after failure.

Many will be hearing it for the first time, as it has been cloaked from public view.

While that is true, DeSantis could and would run on the same democrat failures. There is a sizable fraction of R and I voters who would vote for Anyone But Biden.

Where and when has DeSantis challenged Trump for the position?

There’s a lot of Gary Johnson voters out there who hated Trump personally, but loved his policies. They know the election was stolen and they’re secretly happy about it....not because they like Biden, but because they’re “Never Trump Lite”.

They are the ones who are leading the charge to replace Trump with DeSantis. As much as I like DeSantis, we can’t let these weak spined weenies hold sway.

Ummm…. DeSantis saying “no” does not prevent people from supporting him. Some people like him more than others.

Did it ever occur to people here that there are those who support DeSantis despite the fact that he was not running? For example, I like Mike Pompeo but he’s not running either. People have OPINIONS.

Without Trump, cruz gets 12 percent? Are they crazy? He’d lose the election big time.

I understand that perfectly, myself. Problems occur when liberal media narratives get substituted for genuine personal opinion, even in supposedly conservative publications.

Desantis did not get where he is by making ignorant political decisions.

Going against Trump, should he go for it, is suicidal, whereas he could successfully govern Florida for another term, and then go in to the 27 campaign season as THE frontrunner.

Those who garnered single digit votes should get into another line of work, or keep the current day job.

Those in the higher digits may have a chance, sometime in the future.

Right now, Trump dominates, and takes all the air out of the room for anyone else.

Without Trump, Desantis is a very strong contender, but outside Florida, the populace is not as familiar with him as those on FR.

Recall, his first one was razor thin, against a crooked gay druggie.

That is not a slam on Desantis, rather kudos to the rat party apparatus, that they could place an ignoramus up there and almost pull it off, with the help of Z burg and the media.

When Desantis throws his hat in, the media will turn on him like all four Iowa class battleships in a line firing all nine guns each in unison.
