“Whataboutism” is sometimes a derailing tactic.

But most of the time now people scream “whataboutism” to avoid anyone probing their thoughts for moral or logical coherence.

Also, after the number of times I've seen videos and photos of military personnel and/or equipment located in civilian structures, forgive me if I don't believe Zelensky's claim that there was no military just on his say-so. A recent video example of this phenomenon in action (pardon the Twitter user's vulgarity).
