The West Leaves Ukraine Outgunned Against Russia

But Russia has adjusted during the second phase of the war by hiding its men behind its fearsome artillery. “Russian artillery has been the decisive factor, but only because it’s had to be the decisive factor,” says Mason Clark, a senior analyst and Russia team lead at the Institute for the Study of War.

Russia has at least 10 times as many artillery and missile systems as Ukraine, and in some places on the front line the disparity is closer to 20 to 1, former Defense Minister Andriy Zagorodnyuk says.

With a range of hundreds of miles Russian missiles can strike anywhere in Ukraine. Recent attacks in the western region of Lviv were a short distance from the Polish border. On June 27, President Volodymyr Zelensky estimated that Russia had used “almost 2,800 different cruise missiles” and “hundreds of thousands” of air bombs and rockets against Ukraine.

In contrast, Ukraine’s Western partners have imposed political constraints on the use of donated systems for attacks on Russian territory, and the range of Ukraine’s weapons is limited even on its own soil. Ukraine’s surface-to-surface systems can reach some 75 miles away at maximum with its Vilkha and Tochka missiles, but those are in short supply, Mr. Zagorodnyuk says. Along much of the front line, Ukraine fights with howitzers that have a range of only some 15 miles. Russia often relies on similar systems, but its ground-based rockets can also reach much farther into Ukrainian-controlled territory.

With less ammunition to use, “the Ukrainians have to be much more careful, much more selective, and they can’t hit the same number of targets”. The Russians often have multiple posts behind the front line performing the same supportive functions, so even a successful Ukrainian strike on a target may not cause much disruption.

Every country is outgunned against Russia. Been like that for decades going back to the Soviet Union

Our super-genius woke generals could not defeat 11th-century sandal-clad goatherders given and unlimited budget and 20 years to do it.

Now they want to tackle Russia. What could possibly go wrong?

We owe Ukraine NOTHING. It's not OUR fight, it's not OUR neighborhood, it's not part of OUR national interest.

CORRECT.

Well if you like borsch perhaps, but I’ve eaten better in an oily GALLEY. My wife said to the waiter, “where did this man learn to cook? AFGHANISTAN? So then we went on to the Bolshoi ballet, to see this new girl Gizelle. Well, you remember how BEAUTIFUL she was! Well, she just married a factory manager and...

The misuse of SEALS and SF was criminal. A couple of rounds of 155 could have fixed the problem the grunts ran into. Instead our generals prefer to use SEALS as super infantry and got everyone in the Extortion 17 helo killed.
They aren’t doing such things out of respect for their capability, they are wasting them so they can avoid the optics of using the weapons America has in spades.

I could not believe that the article seems to imply that arty isn’t kosher and that mano a mano is the only honorable way.

(BTW, funny how they didn’t think that when Azov was pounding the breakaway republics with arty for the last 8 years)
But the worst is that all of this is to distract us from the stolen election, the economy, the perversion flooding our schools, the street riots and crime deliberately being unleashed on us.

I recall pointing out that when Obama managed to piss off a hundred million of Chicago Annenburg Challenge swag — and achieve bupkiss for it — what to reasonable people would be a career ender was to Democrats resume enhancement..

Of course corruption is always a concern, but less so with heavy weapon deliveries. With just money the corrupt officials can find a way to skim something off the top, but they can’t exactly put an m777 howitzer on sale on e-bay.

WHY is it “the West’s” duty to arm Ukraine in a regional conflict anyway?

Of course Russia is using artillery against dug in nazi positions. Why wouldn’t you, rather than sending in grunts?

That's the reason Russia's casualty rates are in the single digits on any given day now compared to Ukraine's 1,000.

Not so sure it can be characterized as “slow walking”, but it takes some time to train people to use the weapons before they can be brought it.

And there is another matter. Viky Spatz. She traveled all of Ukraine and learned from speaking to people all over the country, there are plenty of western weapons in Ukraine, but the guy who runs the country (not Zelenski) has held them up in central Ukraine depots.

See FR thread “Attack on Europe”: “War in Ukraine” post for today and yesterday for all the details.

Just like Korea and Vietnam. A democrat got us into those wars and we weren’t even attacked. I believe LBJ made a televised speech regarding Vietnam that “we will fight because we must fight”. 10 years, 58k soldiers, and billions down the drain on that one, and we still lost.

I find the following new story hard to believe. Not because it is not the way Ukrainians have been “transferring” weapons because it is the way they have been doing it and I posted a post from a soldier spelling this all out.

Why I find it hard to believe is because as I also posted from one of my favorite Ukrainian sites the United States is operating the HIMARs. They have sent “several” soldiers for “each machine” and they are not mercs; but actual U.S. troops. And I think there is absolutely no way an American soldier would sell a HIMAR to Russia.

🇬🇧🇺🇦Then the birds sang to us that a deal had been made for the sale of MLRS HIMARS to the Russian side. The issue price was 880 thousand dollars . Additionally, the issue of the transfer of ammunition for 330 thousand dollars is being decided .

The method of transmission chosen is extremely funny: to leave the launcher in a barn in the gray zone, so that Russian military personnel “accidentally” stumble upon it during the sweep. Ukrainian “hoarders” definitely found a use for their skills on the line of contact.

We are waiting in the next couple of weeks for a public confirmation of the “find”.

But the US and a few European countries keep filling the Ukraine money coffers with public funds in order for the criminal politicians (Jobama and crime family) to keep getting their kickbacks, thus continuing to loot the public treasury. It’s the norm in DC!

Fake News.
Ukraine is winning against Russia and has so many guns and weapons, they selling them on the black market. Just ask the Stingers and Javelins.

These aren’t the good ole days like when we used to sell arms to the Saudis and Israelis at the same time. We could shorten the war now by selling to both sides and save the taxpayers a a bit to boot! At least the rooskies could pay for theirs since Brandon has flooded them with cash due to the boomerang sanctions :)

Ukraine WAS one of, if not the pre-emanant, industrial hubs of the USSR. It should be able to produce everything it needs to fight a war but it OFFSHORED all of its industry. So now they are f'd.

Can we learn something from that?
