There's usually a kid that is not bad, but is caught up in the mob frenzy and comes to his senses later.

I wouldn't be surprised to learn the parents are good parents and were woried about their son and really trying (and praying for guidance) for their wayward son.

I hope you are right, but this murder happened at 2:48 AM. Seems to me no one really cared about these kids, at least enough to stop them from roaming the streets at that hour.
