Most “despotic”? Do you have a “Despotic meter” that has been applied to all those countries, including those that don’t exist any more? In fact, Russia was rapidly liberalizing from the time of Alexander II (who began freeing the serfs) through Nicholas II, who was making major economic, social, and political reforms. Certainly, Russia wasn’t the constitutional monarchy that, say, Britain was, but it was trending strongly in the right direction. For example, it has a duma, and Nicholas supported it against the advice of his ministers. You are free to think that Russians in that period were less free than Bulgarians and more than a few other countries, but I very much doubt that it was true.

As for national security, every nation, whether you like it or not, does look out for its own survival. Even a cursory knowledge of European history reveals a constant process of one empire or nation laying down limits on what it will tolerate on its borders. The US has had it’s Monroe Doctrine, and we nearly went to war against the USSR over the placement of missiles in Cuba. Do you think the US would tolerate Russian bases and missiles in Mexico or Canada? It definitely would not.

Even though what we call Ukraine is not an historical nation, but is rather lines drawn on a map by the Soviets as an administrative region, Putin’s position was not that Ukraine could not be an independent nation. In fact, until 2014 Ukraine’s relations with Russia were quite good, as were Ukraine’s relations with the EU. The US (primarily) and NATO (secondarily) in 2014 overthrew the duly elected government of Ukraine, which triggered all that we are seeing now. In essence, the US and West insisted that Ukraine become a state willing to do its bidding and installed a coup government to ensure that. As for “genocide”...given how words are misused today, I guess you can feel justified in calling almost anything “genocide”. Serious people, though, reserve the term for events like the Holocaust, the Armenian Genocide, and Holodomor (USSR, not Russia, and Stalin was not a Russian. He was Georgian).

By the way, using your definition, the Kiev government was committing “genocide” against the Donetsk and Luhansk Republics for 8 years. Did you protest that? Did NATO send them arms to defend themselves? (No, the Russians didn’t them arms. They got their arms from UFA units that didn’t support the coup and went over to the new republics).

World Wars and eternal war killing and displacing 100s of millions of people and deciding the fate of the world come out of Europe, not out of our neck of the woods.

It pays for the world and the United States/NATO to try and help keep some order in Europe, Russia has no reason to spread it’s evil to the Americas.

The Czech import is casting aspersions on native Americans.

Nice.

First off, unless you are substantially more feather-indian than Liz Warren, don't come at me with that 'native American' BS. Second, why is it that us recent imports are the ones cheering for the USA and her allies to triumph, while you root for the USA's mortal enemy? Just pouty because Biden is in office? What a patriot...

Nope. The best thing that ever happened to Ukraine is the Russian invasion. Ukraine, the most corrupt country in the world. You’re not part of that are you?
USA = THE EMPIRE OF LIES.

War will end with Russian withdrawal? Does that include returning Donbas? Crimea? all Lands now controlled by Russia. What about the Russian people who live there? Will Ukraine forgive them to re-build their nation? No, I don’t think so. Lots of people will be killed as traitors or go into camps. All they have will go to Ukraine Oligarchs. These will flee into Russia for their lives. The wounds will be deep and fester into Ukraine/Russia War II and maybe this time the west will not be in shape to help them.

One thing that's overlooked in the torrent of Western propaganda is that Russia has essentially demilitarized most of the European NATO members, especially those in the old Soviet bloc.

While the West's press spews happy talk about Russia running out of artillery ammunition and heavy equipment - the opposite is true. The war of attrition has attrited the old stocks of Cold War weaponry left outside Russia.

Replacement is going to take time the West doesn't have.

Russia ain't our "mortal enemy" [the Soviet Union certainly was], and we ain't at war with Russia.

Sit down.

They have thousands of nuclear ballistic missiles pointed at us. Maybe to you that looks friendly, but not to any rational person.

No... but... they... are... still... an... adversary. And you cheerlead for their victory at the expense of the USA and its European allies. So what does that make you?

I cheerlead for staying at home, taking care of OUR problems, and giving the thumbs-down on neocon adventurism, like in Libya, Iraq and Syria.

“The best thing that ever happened to Ukraine is the Russian invasion.”

Pay no attention to all those dead people and refugees. Ukraine loves being invaded. It’s a hobby./s
