The article seems to state that only 30 of the 300 who resigned specified ‘telework’ changes. VA has almost 70000 state workers so even 300 is a drop in the bucket and could be considered normal attrition. Somebody trying to make a big deal over nothing IMHO.

Tell them “’bye”, and give each of them a pair of pink fuzzy slippers as a parting gift.

From what I've seen of state employees, they won't be missed.

When they applied for their jobs, they knew they were applying for a “show up job”

Perhaps it’s a poor argument, but too much work from home can adversely affect much more than the actual job and employee. We have a circular economy and when office buildings are empty the landlords suffer. Restaurants that catered to downtown employees will close and parking lots will be empty. With everyone living in their jammies the clothing industry will lose out. Sure it is like the horse and buggy and things will adjust but this all happened in one very fast Covid sweep.

“However being that these people resigned it tells me that a good percentage of them had other jobs lined up and probably were more skilled engineers, logisticians, contracting officers ect., people who are in high demand in the private sector.”

They were probably already working at other jobs and getting paid from both.

That’s probably why so many people are being called back. This stuff was basically forced upon us. No real time to adjust.

If they couldn’t do at home what they could do in the office, why weren’t they fired?

I guess that would depend on the individual and which bureaucracy they were employed by and for how long, right?

No doubt many unessential employees. And a few that prefer to stay home with their kids/toddlers.

Even when I had 19 accounting clients-—I did much work at home-—BUT I had to pick up & deliver it all.

That included traffic & fuel.
