An easier way to do this is group the older cops that won’t be in the field into a PFT that is what they would actually face. The US military already does that and has been for 50 years creating a walking, running in place, bicycling, along with sit ups and pushups for some branches and at one time they had the now defunct swimming exercise. And they lowered the standards for women from everything from the annual examination to the academy testing standards.

A mind is a terrible thing to waste and terminating people in their 50’s with 25 years experience for being unable to compete with 25 year olds in a physical test they don’t always need is not real bright as it wastes many years of practice and training. Test them for what they need, not what they used to need.

I know it’s against tradition to read the article, but at least skimming the excerpt - they aren’t talking about lowering standards for the 47 yr old with shot knees, 10yrs since he last walked a beat….they’re lowering the standards for newbies.

Helluva price to pay for being stylish.
