I think the problem for Newsom here is that California being a mess is a well known story. If it bleeds, it leads. And California is always bleeding and leading in the news.
Now, to be sure, the media will stop running those stories to try and rehab Newsom. We will get pure censorship on California in short order. But, the damage is done. California is looked at like a crazy dystopian mess. It’s just one of those knowns.
As for DeSantis running an ad in California, why waste the money? Newsom’s ad is telling Floridians to disbelieve their own eyes. Any advert DeSantis produced would be telling people in California to go outside and open theirs. In short, Californians know what is wrong, they live it everyday.

I would expect Newsom to face a serious battle in the Dem primaries for this reason alone.
There does seem to be some kind of fascination with state lines among the far left. We all heard about Kyle Rittenhouse "crossing state lines" even after it turned out he lived near the state line and like thousands of other people crossed it daily to work, shop, or visit with friends.
Strangely Massachusetts residents have no problem crossing state lines to go shopping in New Hampshire so they don't have to pay the sales tax in Massachusetts. And the large Massachusetts based hospitals all run smaller clinics here in New Hampshire to feed patients to their hospitals in Boston.
Parking lots of restaurants in New Hampshire have lots of cars with out of state license plates, as do our convenient state liquor stores. Apparently those people can handle crossing the state line for a boiled lobster, or some Jack Daniels.

My take?
It has been a long, long time since “America the Beautiful” was played inside Fox or CNN studios, especially those in California.
But Newsom needs a version that doesn’t invoke nostalgia for the California of the 50’s and early 60’s.
This is at least labeled an opinion piece and I don’t have a problem with that. What bothers me is that the so called journalists are infusing their opinions and bias into stories that are supposed to be news.
