If you could afford to live in the Bay Area, would you WANT to live there? “Kings” typically like to live in nice places, all else being equal.

I surmise this has more to do with all the legal headaches in moving a corporate entity.

Chevron is a Delaware corporation. There is such a thing as leading by example. Don’t make your underlings move while staying put. Move with them. Or stay put. This isn’t like the king going out on campaign, where he might die of disease or be wounded by arrow or sword (as happened to Alexander). It’s just a move.
