The Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA will shut down on Sept. 30. NBC has been notifying cable and satellite operators this morning that the five-year old channel will go dark in three months. “In order to best reach our target audiences, we are reevaluating our programming distribution strategy regarding the content that currently airs on Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA with our partners at the IOC and USOPC,” an NBC Sports spokesperson said via email. “We will be announcing our exciting new plans for Olympic content in the fall.”

Nor I. I’m surprised it outlasted NBCSN (NBC Sports Network) - which went off the air in January.

Because nobody ever watches it. Seems like a no-brainer that should have happened a long time ago.

I didn’t either. I might have watched if they showed highlights from past olympics: back when the Olympics were reasonably entertaining.

Actually the Olympic Channel was pretty good. I wonder what’s the strategy here. Are they losing tons of $$$ or do they feel they everyone will just move to Peacock and pay $$$ for streaming service.

I’ve seen it on cable when flipping through the channels, but I don’t recall ever watching it.

I did not even know that NBC had an Olympic channel. But then again even if I was aware of it, I would not waste my time. I would expect anti-americanism, lgbt and trans propaganda shoved down my throat. Why would I sit and watch that?!

Never seen it. Never heard of it.
Maybe NBC's 1992 Olympic Triplecast is still going on.
