This ice cream store owner is wrong because individual cops don’t decide body armor policy. They just do what they’re told, and wear what they’re told to wear. No reason to punish them.
But by golly, you’re 100% correct in the overall sense. I can understand the military ranking system, as it quickly identifies who’s in charge.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t stop there. Many cops today wear award ribbons on their shirts, just like soldiers wear campaign ribbons. And then there’s the service hash marks and the olive drab tactical dress.
Is that such a big deal? Yes, it is. When you dress like a soldier you almost can’t help acting like a soldier. And I don’t want soldiers patrolling my streets. I want professional police officers doing that.
