SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — The California Department of Justice on Wednesday acknowledged the agency wrongly made public the personal information of perhaps hundreds of thousands of gun owners in up to six state-operated databases, a broader exposure than the agency initially disclosed a day earlier.
Rob Bonta, the Democrat who heads the agency and is running for reelection in November, said he was “deeply disturbed and angered” by the failure to protect the information his department is entrusted to keep. He ordered an investigation and promised to fix any problems.
“This unauthorized release of personal information is unacceptable and falls far short of my expectations for this department,” he said.
The California Rifle and Pistol Association noted that the release came days after the U.S. Supreme Court threw out New York’s requirement that those seeking to carry concealed weapons provide a reason. That also derailed California’s similar requirement, though state lawmakers and Bonta are working to impose new requirements.

Chances of prosecution.. Nil/none/nada.
What’s worse?
Being outed for owning a gun?
Or not being on the outed list?
“Personal info on California gun owners wrongly made public”
Was it an accident? A mistake? If so, interesting timing.
Probably just another deranged liberal fighting for the cause, like who ever leaked the SCOTUS draft opinions.
They are everywhere and they are a problem.
The swamp is deep and wide.
Right after the 2nd amendment decision.....no accident
This is why it is important to have at least one gun NOT registered and kept in an unknown location.
When the goons or the thugs* take the listed guns you still retain some capability of future defense.
*Too often one and the same.
But, he is “deeply upset” so there is that.
I’ll say that it wasn’t an accident.
1. What purpose does publishing the list serve? Perps either see a house to break into, maybe, to try and steal a gun. Or, a house to stay away from so they don’t get shot.
2. Who’s on the list? They were reporting that lots of folks from Beverly Hills were buying guns like crazy last year and in 2020:because of the riots. Wonder how many liberal hypocrites are on it, or have their names interestingly been removed so as not to expose them. Wonder how many celebrities are on it or have they escaped being outed?
Sue the hell out of Screwsom.
Sue anyway
IIRC it is administered by county sheriff offices.
Most coastal counties are liberal. Also probably Sacto county by now as well (the sheriff used to be conservative IIRC).
Most non-coastal counties are not well populated.
Therefore most of the permit owners whose privacy was violated seem likely to be liberal (not conservative, not libertarian, etc).
Therefore the mistake seems likely to have been unintentional (this, if true, still seems to fit in well with the view that liberals tend not to be the sharpest people in a given room).
Deliberate. Democrat socialist liar.

That pesky gun owners’ data. It just went and got out.
Kind of like how guns just get loose and go off.
Let’s see how many of Hollywoods’ best are CCW holders. I also see some squirming going on.
Red flag laws. Now people know who has guns.
Not too hard to find that crazy boy or girl you went out with once or twice before you thought “he/she/they/zir/ze is nuts.”
In retaliation for dumping said person you get the police kicking down your door.
FFor Antifa, BLM, et al. it’s like googling to find a local gun store, only without the pesky google trail...
In the first versions of the story it was revealed that current permit holders were doxxed - including no fewer than 244 judges and 420 reserve officers. Later it was revealed that the compromise was statewide, later still that it included applicants, not just holders, and data included name, address, and employment status (i.e. law enforcement). If the intention was to intimidate people from applying for permits that they were denied before the Supreme Court decision earlier this week, it was an awfully stupid way to go about it. That AG may want to make really certain he doesn’t get snagged in a DUI for a long time to come.
This was likely just an act of incompetence. The ‘hidden’ data should have been removed and sanitized not just hidden. I see this happen all the time.
And my name, address, and etc. were breached here. If I get a letter from the CA DOJ ‘explaining’ this I will post it on FR forthwith.
Oh, I'm sure he was.
