RE: They’re entitled.

Entitled to what? And if you’re referring to opinions, of course, but we’re talking about WHO we can trust.

Between one writer who advocates this and another who advocates the opposite, what criteria do you use to determine who to trust?

They’re entitled to their opinions, as you and I are.

From all the data I collect from other writers’ articles, I make a decision based upon what I know is right.

I do not support either Ukraine or Russia; it’s a total waste of life, resources, a country and money.

RE: They’re entitled to their opinions, as you and I are.

That’s not my point. Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion. Whether it corresponds to reality or not is what interests me.

RE: from all the data I collect from other writers’ articles, I make a decision based upon what I know is right.

If that is the case, and I agree that this is the best, practical approach, we cannot simply ignore the information provided by mainstream media totally because that ought to be part of the process of data collection.

You’re 100% right. I don’t ignore it, but rather sift thru it to check any ‘facts” they proffer, which are usually slanted to their POV.

We’re not far apart on how we go thru the information evaluation process.

This exchange started because of this statement of yours:

I don’t believe anything from Russia, Ukraine or the US.

Healthy skepticism is good in that it will impel us to pursue the truth further. But ANYTHING? That's absolute skepticism. Any source will have some grain of truth in it. We have to believe at least in SOME things reported in order to be able to begin to sift through things. For instance, take the report of this missile attack on the "mall". We have to at least believe that this attack occurred regardless of the source of the report. Otherwise we can't even have a discussion as to WHOSE MISSILE it was or what the motive of the attack was.

I should have said: “much of anything”.

The mall missile? I only saw a fire in the background of a number of stores. No evidence of craters, shrapnel and missile parts. No serial numbers on those part to ID the source. No bodies or remains. I didn’t see or read about any “proof” that a missile attack occurred, other than a few headlines, and reading into the several article I did, wasn’t convinced that it was a missile attack. Pics an be altered, reports can be fudged, and often are, on the Net.

Do you have a ‘credible’ source for pics and articles on that incident?

RE: I should have said: “much of anything”.

That is all I wanted to clarify

RE: The mall missile? I only saw a fire in the background of a number of stores.

Well, if the reports from western press are not to be believed, and reports from Ukranians are not to be believed either, then that only leaves the following possibility:

The Ukranians set fire on the mall and called it a missile attack in order to blame Russia for a wanton attack on non-combatants.

Can you think of any other?

As for me, my gut feeling is IT WAS a missile attack. For what purpose is another question.

“The Ukranians set fire on the mall and called it a missile attack in order to blame Russia for a wanton attack on non-combatants.”

From what I read a few weeks back, people found a UKE missile’s parts w/ serial numbers not belonging to Russia, yet it was claimed they’d done it at a school or civic center fallout shelter. Remember that? That’s partly what I meant by hard time believing the many reports.

Absent ‘real’ proof of a Russian missile attack, I’ve noted it and am waiting for any follow-up data on it.

SATs could map where it came from; we easily have that capability. I’m surprised that there is not footage from someone’s iPhone, of the attack happening, but I guess if it were multiple missiles, they’d all be ducking & covering for safety.

Well, we’re back to the trustworthiness of the source aren’t we?

Who wrote this? Who is his source?
What evidence did the reporter show and what was the serial number?

We are.

The pic showed a (supposedly) US missile tailfin or something, with US serial number markings on it. Could have easily been faked or slanted to blame US and the UKEs for bombing their own civilians.

I noted it, and searched for more sources and collaborative evidence, but the story ‘dropped-off’ the news cycle, so I knew it was fake and planted. No one credible seemed to want to carry it.

My statement: Substacks are to be vetted judiciously the same way as mainstream media sources. More so posts in FR from people hiding behind aliases.

I would say a source’s long TRACK RECORD tells us more about their credibility than any other, mainstream or alternative.

I argued that 0 seconds an 0 minutes of footage were taken by, as you claimed, reporters from places like the BBC, Reuters, and even CNN

to impeach my claim, you produced video footage from Sky News. Your proffer is irrelevant.

I never did study this subject and thank you for this well presented and quite cogent exposition.

And there is plenty of footage from each of the organizations listed too.

Don't be an idiot, just admit your statement was wrong.

Funny to see a Freeper taking the side of mainstream media, which on the subject of the SMO in Ukraine are State Department/CIA stenographers. So, no I will stick to my statement, hyperbole as it is, because you haven’t produced evidence to impeach it.

Funny to see a Freeper taking the side of mainstream media,

I'm not taking their side at all. You claimed no mainstream media were at the front lines in Ukraine. I posted video from a main stream media outlet's reporter at the front lines.

Then you set up a false test, suddenly your statement only applies to SOME main stream media outlets. I have better things to do than find you clips from the BBC from the front lines, but here are a couple for your viewing pleasure.

Chasiv Yar after Russian attack on civilians

From the front lines in a training camp for foreign fighters. People from all over the world fighting against the Russian invaders.

Every major media outlet has reporters at the front lines. Even the Russians and the Chinese. Don't be a fool.
