The shock in the South African coastal town of East London is great after the incident in a disco bar in which at least 22 people were killed. According to the latest reports, most of the victims were between the ages of 13 and 17.
At first, police thought they had died from oppression. The bodies were lying on tables and chairs and on the floor, but investigations are now underway as they are said to have no visible injuries.
Friends and family have gathered in droves at the bar. All day long they are waiting for news about their loved ones. Some of them are asked to come to the morgue to identify a body...

They now say most were 13 to 17 years old now the earlier story was that the dead were 18 to 20.

Oppression must have an alternate meaning, or translation, in Dutch.
Earlier article said CO from a faulty heater.
Something killed them and your idea as good as any.
The notion of heat implicit in that translation I guess.
Maybe they had something on Hillary.
Something (some poison?) had to have acted quickly, otherwise you would think that at least some people who might have been near a door would have been able to stumble out.

Apparently “pens down” celebrations after final exams are a big thing in South Africa. The government is trying to cut down on them. They are mostly for the seniors, but it looks like other pupils tag along. The club may have been rented for the party.

I’m guessing “oppression” should have been translated as “trauma”, as in the bodies had no visible wounds.

Well, I was born in Durban and I’m glad as hell I got out of there before I could remember (2 yrs old).
The Dutch article uses the word verdrukking. Microsoft’s language program translates that into English as “oppression”. When you look up verdrukking by itself, one of the variant meanings is “terrorism”. It makes sense that police would initially assume 22 dead implied terrorism.
Pending new info, my guess is some moron made party “punch” with something cheap like wood alcohol, not knowing it was deadly.
Several did survive.
