Roberts would not have overturned Roe or Casey. People will argue if the decision is 6-3 or 5-4 on that point.

Without going into the rightness or wrongness of abortion, since the Constitution doesn’t say a word about abortion, and since it wasn’t a public issue until the last 50 years, there was no halfway alternative for the court unless it did as it did with Row vs Wade, namely, make a law and not just interpret the constitution. The latter is all the Supreme Court is supposed to do.
Abortion law is the job of legislators.
