Boris Johnson loses two special parliamentary elections (historic defeat)

Boris Johnson has suffered a double blow as the Tories crashed to two by-election defeats in his first test at the ballot box since a bruising no-confidence vote.

The Conservatives saw a majority of 24,000, or 40.6%, in the Devon seat of Tiverton and Honiton evaporate - a record upset for the party - as the Liberal Democrats triumphed.

In Wakefield, the Red Wall constituency in West Yorkshire snatched by the Conservatives in 2019, it was Labour that took victory.

Full result of Tiverton and Honiton by-election (a rural seat)- Lib Dem gain from Conservatives

Richard Foord (LD) 22,537 (52.91%, +38.14%)

Helen Hurford (Con) 16,393 (38.49%, -21.72%)

Liz Pole (Lab) 1,562 (3.67%, -15.88%)

It’s good the Commies are picking up votes. That’s always good.

You mean it’ll just hasten the West’s collapse? Burn it all down?

I tend to agree the sooner we get this over with the better although I dont like wishing pain on people.

I’m sure glad the BBC and all their libtard friends have defamed all of the truly conservative and patriotic parties in the UK, so that the electorate get an “honest” choice between tweedledum (Labor), tweedledumber (Liberals), and tweedledumbest (Tories).

Looks like Ray Dalio was wise to short UK stocks.

There are few certainties in British electoral politics. But one is that an unpopular party in government will lose heavily to a third party in a mid-term byelection [= special election]. The other is that this has no bearing whatever on what happens in a subsequent general election.

True but it will send political shockwaves. The chairman of the party has resigned.

Never has a politician blown an over whelming election mandate. What a buffoon.

The Tories are going to get crushed unless and until they dump Boris. They can stubbornly hold onto him for a little longer....but then they have to face the voters.

It would be massive if it really meant anything.

The UK has the same problem we do.

The letter after the name means jack anymore.

The only reason political parties still exist is to give voters the illusion of choice.

A pol is either loyal to its republic or to its Deep State.

Most of the UK’s pols have proven themselves loyal to their Deep State.

The Brits got Brexit.

We got Trump.

Now both our Deep States are getting even.

The only difference, and it’s a biggie, is that we still have Trump.

Who the Hell do the Brits have?

It does look like they will get crushed. This seat has ben in their hands since 97 when it was created due to re-districting.

I cannot see Boris leading them into the next election in 2024 it will be a bloodbath if this is anything to go by.

The NHS is a sacred cow in the UK. Any party that inveighs against it is asking for electoral defeat. Is global warming hysteria the same way? Do Tories have to undertake the extreme measures chosen by Johnson or be obliterated at the polls?

It shows how Boris has royally screwed things up with his leftist policies and out of touch advisors.

Although there’s a wide range of opinion on current green policies, for now they’re far from the top of the list of issues on which a Tory government could be re-elected or defeated.
