“the taxpayers benefit from tax revenue and commerce that a team brings to the area”
The above statement is false.
Read and learn:

Those stories don’t make my statement false. But as I said in another post, some deals suck and folks in government are not savvy enough to work good deals with these teams.
“Those stories” are hundreds and hundreds of stadium deals.
If you know of one example where the numbers actually made sense, post that information.
I think you will be Unicorn hunting.
“Not a big fan of MLB but they can always move to Peoria, Arizona.”
And they can keep the name “Rays” given Peoria’s 300+ days of sunshine per year.
“I only wish more states would start doing this”
Maybe they will as a result of DeSantis’ actions. I expect many/most taxpayers don’t have a clue their money is being spent this way, and this will raise awareness.
It would be an especially hard pill to swallow when so many are living paycheck to paycheck and paying the bazillion-dollar salaries of illiterate retards whose only claim to fame is being an athlete.
There ya go... being logical. Good point.
One step further - I feel the same way about public and private colleges as well. Use the endowment funds first.
Kotex could name the Team Tampa Bay Tampons and have a big
Maxipad electronic screen, and light it red once a month
period.
ROFL—sad but funny—I wonder if that Boston Manager ever worked at Disney?
Sitting in the bleachers at Fenway was lots of fun 25 years ago. $2-$3 was the tariff. Before I went inside I always ate an Italian sausage sandwich that came with fried peppers and onions. Real gut bombs but delicious. Outside Fenway there were 5 or so vendor’s selling them.
I don’t keep up with MLB these days.
It’s probably safe to assume that a healthy percentage of the denied money would have found its way to the pockets of politicians supporting the stadium. Let’s just recall how well the pols of Oakland were treated after welcoming the Raiders back to the city, along with the Coliseum’s renovation. Ignacio de la Fuente, a city council denizen, claimed he worked hard for his bennies at the hands of Al Davis..
Everyone benefits from most economic activity. The govt doesn’t need to subsidise sports. In fact this should be a function of the Federal Reserve.
Ref the Key & Peele bit on “ass slapping.”
Rays play I a crappola stadium in a place inconvenient to get to.
