I’d imagine about the same number who lost loved ones over Britain, and France, and Poland, and Czechoslovakia, and Italy, and Belgium, and the Netherlands, etc.

I disagree but a good reply nonetheless.
Where I differ is our historic relationships with Britain and France are greater than Estonia, Latvia, or Lithuania.
However, we did lose a lot of people in Vietnam so fighting in regions without a lot of historic ties does have precedent.
I guess there is always somebody to fight, even though I prefer diplomacy & business to warfare. Warfare seems to have a strong appeal to human beings.
