No, it isn’t curious. NATO is looking for a war and I think the news is BS.
Russia stands nothing to gain by picking a fight with NATO.
They know they would get crushed.

Then why is Russia provoking one? A prominent Russian talking head just recently threatened to turn the UK into glass. Russia has also issued threats against Baltics. And Poland. And Finland and Sweden if they join NATO.
Is it bluff and bluster? Maybe. Then again, maybe not.
