I was watching some show about a solar flare disaster and had to look up how long it would take it to reach the earth. (The show had a few days iirc to prepare for it.)

It would take about 8 minutes to hit the earth. Probably as long as I’ve been reading and commenting on this thread.

I can just hear my wife. “You could have been wrapping the house up with foil, but instead you were wasting time on Free Republic!”

It actually is several days, as the particles move much slower than the speed of light (they move closer to 1,000,000 miles per day). It won’t help us much, if it’s another big flare, but then only Art Bell believes that a solar flare (or EMP) could damage us. The rest of us, normal people, know it cannot, since we haven’t experienced it yet.
