Spain's opposition People's Party won an absolute majority in Andalusia's regional elections on Sunday (June 19) for the first time in Spanish democracy, boosting the new Conservative leader's odds for the national elections in late 2023.
Andalusia, with 8.5 million inhabitants, is the most populated region in Spain. For 40 years it was a stronghold of the main socialist party, which ceded power in 2018 to a conservative coalition government led by the People's Party (PP).
The regional leader, Juan Manuel Moreno, won a historic victory by securing 58 seats and 43% of the votes with 99.5% of the votes counted. This will allow him to govern alone, a rare situation nowadays in Spain where fragmentation and political instability have made coalitions the most widespread form of government in the last five years.

So are some of the ‘yoops’* waking up and realizing, AGAIN, that socialist 🐂💩 ain’t what it’s cracked up to be?
*My term of endearment for euro folks. 😊

Holy cow. The #2 party is right-wing. Conservatives now dominate the region, 72-37.
After the horrible civil war in Spain, they know this. However, just as in this country - they have infiltrated. This is very good news to see them fighting back.
I Europe, not so much.
Communists are Communists, but socialists could sometimes be quite conservative. people’s parties are usually center or right, often religious. In Spain definitely very right!
Democrats are mostly right wingers, as are Republicans.
Some parties drifted from original targets, some just wanted to broader their voting base by adopting populist names.
It really depends, you need to do some research in given country.
Very confusing.
You are correct. European politics is not really comparable to that of the US.
Thi is extremely God news BTW. I had a feeling the PP was going to be able to win a governing coalition, but this makes it possible to think of a majority government.
The only bad news, possibly, it that right wing Vox may not be in the governing coalition
