The reality is that Russia is not going to start a war with a NATO country unless that country commits active troops in Ukraine itself. Sanctions, closing borders, etc., aren't going to do it because Russia knows that is the surest way to guarantee defeat in Ukraine.
They're obviously are some within the United States who would want us to commit forces to Ukraine, but there isn't nearly enough political support for that to happen or it already would have. In fact, the only reason we are seeing economic measures being taken against Russia is because of the acknowledgment that we won't be taking any military measures.
Economic sanctions, isolation and exclusion from affairs elsewhere in Europe is the price Russia is going to pay for invading Ukraine.
