INDIANAPOLIS – Former Mike Pence aide Diego Morales has won the Republican nomination for secretary of state in Indiana — an office documents show he once was fired from — defeating incumbent Holli Sullivan.
Sullivan's loss is a major blow to the so-called establishment wing of the party, and yet another sign that Gov. Eric Holcomb's influence is dwindling in his second term. Holcomb had appointed Sullivan in March 2021 after then-Secretary of State Connie Lawson announced her retirement.

Thanks, Cotton. The Indiana GOP appears to be finally getting some back bone. I was shocked when the voted to override Holcomb’s veto. The question I have is will they keep that back bone after the election? They have seemed to run and hide every other session if the Indy Star wrote anything negative.

Pence and Holcomb are both have non-inspiring personally.
Pence is as inspiring as his hero, Benedict Arnold.
Benedict Arnold had far more charisma and courage than Pence.
Morales immigrated to the U.S. from Guatemala when he was a senior in high school and served in the National Guard before landing various roles within state government, including a couple of stints in the secretary of state office and as an aide for then Gov. Mike Pence.
“If you don’t believe that the American dream is still alive and well, just look at my little life,” Morales said in his acceptance speech. “You can be anything if you are willing to work hard and sacrifice.”

There’s many like this gentleman out here. I work as middle management for a big home improvement company. Last Wednesday I did an impromptu site inspection at a home we were installing home improvement products. I wanted to make sure the service provider was following corporate policy.
After 30 minutes of watching him discretely, I called my territorial sales manager to the site to assist with my inspection report. We were both pleasantly surprised with the caliber of service provider we were watching.
He gave the corporation and the customer 110%. The customer gave him a 5 star review and said when she completes the second floor rehab next year she wants the same guy back.
The service provider is a 1st generation American. I didn’t ask what Latin American country he came from, it really doesn’t matter. He came here as a child with his family legally and started working for his dad at 12 or 13 while going to school, very smart and speaks English very cleanly, and when his father got hurt the son stepped up at 15 and started managing his dad’s construction company.
He’s 31 now, has 15 years of verifiable construction management experience. He has a wife 4 kids and is as conservative as me. The young man despises the dimocRAT party as much or more than I and he says his entire family votes conservative. He told me he came from a tyrannical government and he’ll be damned if he sits back and allows the country that provided him never ending opportunities to be consumed by loser communists.
I left that job site smiling thinking we’re going to work through this situation and come out on the otherside much stronger. This young man is more of an American as some in my family and for sure better than any liberal you’ll ever meet.
Yes, the dims have overplayed this replacement theory Edward Kennedy and his loser buddies forced on Americans.
Ho-ho-hokum has got to go - milktoast governor who phones it in and only works to try to set himself up for future office...
A former Pence aide winning in IN is bucking the Establishment?
Morales is a good guy - he is an active member of American Legion Post 28 in New Albany, IN and is at every Veterans event.
I have talked to him several times and he is a regular family man, working guy.
It’s funny to think of. I’m more curious why he got fired from the office previously
GOP delegates nominated Diego Morales, who worked in the governor’s office when Mike Pence led the state. He overcame criticism about twice leaving jobs in the secretary of state office after being written up for poor work performance.
He looks persistent and has come back to change the things that were frustrating?
