Seems to me a perfectly apt use of the word. Tragedy is a drama proceeding from some pivotal event, that acquires a momentum of its own, terminating in death. Yes; this is a tragedy.
It is tragic that MI has prosecutors so dumb it took them over a month to figure this one out. The heroic homeowner should sue the city for letting the terrorist go free to menace his family and home. Then he should move south.
