Historically a pretty safe area of South Philly, with lots of stores and foot traffic, traditionally with many Italian-American residents nearby who patronize the several Catholic schools in the area. It's become multicultural, with Asian nail salons and old-time Philadelphia Jewish merchants as well as Italians. (Jewish community roots Philly go back to before the Amerian Revolution).

I still haven't forgotten this 2021 case of a little old lady carjacked while unloading groceries in formerly safe white working class South Philly neighborhood:

Cancer patient, 78, had heart attack after she was mugged and maced by 3 women who stole her car

TERRIFYING AMBUSH Grandma cancer patient, 78, ‘suffered HEART ATTACK after she was pepper-sprayed and beaten by 3 women in carjacking’

The handling of the case was so terrible that after she went through all kinds of hail to be a witness after they caught the first perp, she didn't even bother to go back for the second trial to see the second perp also given a participation trophy by the judge.

Wise lady. Courts are evil places. There is no justice there. Sometimes one is forced to go, at gunpoint, and sometimes taking the brush with evil seems to be worth it. In all my years "in the business" (civil side) I know of ZERO injured people who would bring a suit again. Not worth it.
