Ron DeSantis attempts to take over the GOP-led Florida Senate

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Ron DeSantis is governor of the state of Florida, but also is increasingly trying to be the de facto head of the state’s Republican-led Senate.

DeSantis is using his political sway to recruit Republican Senate candidates to run who don’t have the backing of GOP Senate leadership. The goal is to build a coalition of GOP senators with more political loyalty to him than their own Senate Republican leadership, which has had an uneasy relationship with DeSantis over the past several months.

It’s a continuation of DeSantis’ one-sided relationship with the Florida Legislature, which has bowed to his demands to pass laws to punish Disney Corp. and redo congressional redistricting to create maps more advantageous to Republicans. DeSantis’ influence among state lawmakers has grown as his stock rises with national Republicans, and he is considered among a top tier candidate to run for president in 2024.

You go, Governor. Sounds like a good plan. Promote people who agree with you more than they try to line their pockets.

If he’s not campaigning against incumbents (and this article would certainly say if he were), this article is a load of crap.

Sounds like the senate leaders are RINOs and Desantis is working to neutralize them

Sure, Politico.
When Democrat governors do the exact same thing, you praise them as shrewd politicians.

Fascinating how that segues into the “they’re trying to destroy Democracy!” Narrative…

I can think of no problem if a bunch of Florida RINO State Senators get replaced by MAGA candidates in the August GOP Primary.

I can understand why a leftist rag like Politico is concerned.

DeSantis knows that Tallahassee is the biggest swamp in Florida, not the Okefenokee.

desantis is currently running for florida governor...

he’s stated he’s focused on the governors race...

not the 2024 presidential election...

I like Desantis more every day. He reminds me of what so many liked in Trump in one respect; He shows strength.

Good for Desantis. Good for Florida.
Go DeSantis!
Get the RINOs out of the State House and State Senate.

Better do it soon. Florida housing prices are booming, more than other states. I had planned to retire there after I finished my Navy career but I don’t know if I can afford to buy a house there now even though I’ve maintained my Florida residency.

I bought a brand-new 1800 square foot 4 br, 2 ba in north Jax for $165k back in 2012. Sold it for $215k when I was transferred to Norfolk in 2018. I just checked it on Zillow and it’s valued at $366k.

I’m kicking myself for not renting it.

Lewrockwell.com has suggested DJT will start his ‘24 campaign next month show DeSantis ‘who’s boss’. Love the libertarian site but it sounds too far fetched.

“Bowed”? It seems to me that if the Legislature had been buffaloed into passing their recent freedom-loving laws, it would have been reported in the MSM at the time. Maybe I missed it but I don’t remember such reporting

He’s trying to push aside RINO squishes. So of course like with Trump, Pollutico claims it’s a cult of personality.

Did these at Politico also do a story on the same thing happening in North Dakota? (see below story)

This is the nature of power.
