Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is best placed to take Trump's place as a 2024 GOP presidential nominee.
An expert on authoritarianism told Insider that's because he's learned all of Trump's lessons.
The expert added that DeSantis 'doesn't have the baggage of Trump,' and could rally voters.

If President Trump runs again in 2024, he’s almost certainly the nominee and he can probably get re-elected. if not, I’d say DeSantis is probably the front-runner.

Seems ever day I read an article about DeSantis and how he is better than Trump. DeSantis has said repeatedly he is not going to run for president. He has said this countless times but people still are saying this. I think these people are just out to weaken Trump’s chances and I suspect they are really dems. Look at the source of this article; MSN. Can’t get any farther dem country. Well unless you go to CNN. Support the guy who IS going to run.Of course DeSantis going to squash any talks of a presidential run until he wraps up the Florida campaign. To do otherwise would be stupid. Charlie Crist would clobber him with negative ads, "Ron DeSantis Doesn't Want To Be Your Governor!"
If he wins Florida, it's game on. DeSantis has accumulated a massive war chest and while right now, he trails Trump in the field of candidate preference, he's catching up and he's closing in.
Trump has yet to make his re-election campaign official as well. He teases about it, he fundraises on it, but he hasn't officially committed.
DeSantis is waiting for a gubernatorial election to conclude. What's Trump waiting for?

As I've said before, I like Ron Desantis. I don't have a problem with people reasonably presenting their views on the matter.
There's even some truth to the anti-Trump arguments - I just don't like it when what was going on in The Swamp is glossed over - because if DeSantis gets in, the same tired old backstabbing script will get run on him, too.
