Nevada Republicans shied away from more moderate alternatives Tuesday and embraced a candidate who wants to imprison women who have abortions, an election denier, and a self described “Lady Trump.”
Election results for Nevada’s primary races trickled in late Tuesday, but voters had clear preferences early in the count for a number of far-right candidates.
Jim Marchant, who has garnered national attention for his full-throated commitment to Trump and false narratives surrounding alleged election fraud , won the Republican nomination for Secretary of State.
Marchant has been labeled an “election denier” by States United Action, a nonpartisan group tracking the trend nationally.
In Nevada the secretary of state is the top elections official and is responsible for overseeing elections and certifying their results, making his role as a vocal spokesperson for promoting false voter fraud allegations especially significant.
He will now face Democrat Cisco Aguilar, a former staffer for Sen. Harry Reid, the sole Democrate running for Secretary of State.
Incumbent Nevada Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske, who is termed out of reelection, is a Republican that Marchant sued in an attempt to overturn his 5-point loss to Democratic U.S. Rep. Steven Horsford in 2020. The case was thrown out.

“States United Action, a nonpartisan group tracking the trend nationally.”
Any group that doesn’t fund campaigns for one party and one party only can be legally described as “nonpartisan” but I’m so sick of this deceitful usage.
LOL! The Victoria Advocate looks pretty stupid. They copied an article from a tiny, Nevada paper without editing the headline. It’s SOP to tweak an AP story; it’s odd NOT to rewrite a headline. It’s downright comical to leave a headline from a different context. Victoria, Texas had its primaries last night, but the headline refers to Nevada primaries.
