Thank you; nice post.
Last year I attended 7 reopen school rallies, 2 reopen sports rallies, and 3 signature gathering events to recall my school board.
In the end, even when the schools finally reopened after a ridiculous 18 MONTHS, they just returned more “woke” (and disinterested in actual education) than ever.
I fought hard to reopen public schools but in the end just withdrew from that battle and pulled my kids—there’s simply a brighter future for all kids in private or homeschooling.
We need school choice and vouchers and I’m glad some states are heading that way.
My son goes to Timberview, which had an active shooter situation last year. Nothing crushes your soul faster than having your child whisper over the phone that they “don’t want to die this way” as you are racing through traffic to get to them.
Thankfully, he made it through unscathed.
The shooter grew up in one of the million dollar homes in my community. Spoiled little creep had an attorney by his side immediately.
Btw the math proof for parents acting rationally to school shootings in light of the low probability is found above.
1. Set up three high schools: wokey, centrist, traditionalist.
2. Have teachers choose where they want to teach, with the proviso that their pay will be governed by attendance.
3. Let parents select where they want their kids to be educated.
On a purely speculative basis, I imagine the teacher distribution would be 40% woke, 40% centrist, and 20% trad. The student distribution would be 15% woke, 50% centrist, and 35% trad, The woke go broke.
Does that turn the homes into school zones?
In CA, property taxes in a given district are irrelevant when it comes to school funding. All property taxes go to Sacramento which redistributes them back to each school district such that the highest income districts are the lowest funded. I think CA is the only state that doesn’t fund each student with the same amount.
So…a voucher system would work in CA as property taxes aren’t related to school funding as they are in other states ($$ staying within each district).
Excellent post. Plus, parents don’t want their students as sitting ducks in a Biden gun-free school zone.
Mentioning shootings is to push an agenda - nothing more. They are probably #254 on reasons why parents homeschool.
just withdrew from that battle and pulled my kids
Every ounce of energy spent in battle is energy that could be spent on YOUR children. You are accountable to nobody except to the little whippers, spouse, and God. And yourself. Tell the rest to pound sand.
I have a lifetime to support the 2nd Amendment. I have 12 years for the primary education of the little DoodleBobs. The math is simple.
