A new political action committee has formed attempting to draft Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to run for president in 2024, and it is being run by a Republican consultant heavyweight who has been a veteran of campaigns involving former GOP Presidents Ronald Reagan and Donald Trump.
DeSantis, running this year for a second term as Florida governor, has consistently led polls among Republican primary voters if Trump isn’t a contender. However, when Trump is included in the polling, DeSantis usually runs a distant second.
The Ready for Ron PAC is being led by two generations. Ed Rollins was the campaign chairman for Reagan’s 1984 landslide of 49 states and ran the pro-Trump Great America PAC for the 2020 election. Lilian Rodríguez-Baz, a newcomer to politics, is a Miami appellate attorney and conservative activist. The two teamed to start the online petition to gather signatures encouraging DeSantis to announce a 2024 presidential run.

We’d all like to welcome Ron PAC to Free Republic, Oak007!
Ed Rollins is a Bush League Republican.
Beware.
Unless there’s something big that I don’t know...or hasn;t happened yet...DeSantis will be my pick if DJT doesn’t run. And given his age...and the unexpected things that can happen to guys his age...we must accept the possibility that he won’t run.
That said, the prediction markets are now saying DeSantis has a better chance at the nomination.

Ed Rollins? Mmmm. RINO, I think. Bushbot.
Gov DeSantis is in his 40s and has time to wait out the Trump tidal wave, not drown in it. He would make a dream ticket with Trump or a dream ticket as a Pres candidate in 28. I will vote for him against almost anyone except DJT.
I agree completely.
Sounds like a PAC with an agenda. NeverTrump and divide the GOP.
Rollins wouldn’t be a policy guy - he’s an election/campaign/fundraising guy. Anyway, DeSantis has shown absolutely zero indication that he can be led by the nose by bad advisors into poor policy decisions. Which quite honestly is not something we can say about Trump.
Remember, he almost lost to the fag druggie in 2018 (32,463 vote margin):
2018 Florida general election Party Candidate Votes % Republican Ron DeSantis 4,076,186 49.59 Democratic Andrew Gillum 4,043,723 49.19 Reform D. Richardson 47,140 0.57 Independent Kyle Gibson 24,310 0.30 Independent Ryan C. Foley 14,630 0.18 Independent Bruce Stanley 14,505 0.18 Write-in 67 0.00
Seeking the 2022 Democratic nomination are U.S. Representative Charlie Crist, (a former Republican governor of Florida). Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried, and Florida State Senator Annette Taddeo, Crist's running mate in the 2014 Florida gubernatorial election.
Pro-Ron equals anti-Trump.
I love Ed Rollins. Remember him crowing when he won the NJ Governorship for that ding-ding Whitman? He went against serpent-head and won. His choice of women were not too good because his book saved most of his wrath for Ariana Huffungton.
I’m glad he’s out there. Not too young anymore.
True. True. And true.
Welcome to Free Republic!
The Democrats will ask Biden to not run due to his age. They will then turn around and make Trump’s age an issue.
I am not confident Trump could pull a Ronald Reagan on the media/Democrat cabal.....and his age is a concern to many FReepers.
Trump’s endorsements and staff picks are another concern and he has not improved in that area.
I would prefer DeSantis as it sucks the wind out of the Democrats.
That was when inflation was 1.5%....gas was $1.89 a gallon....milk was $1.99 a gallon.
Especially if Desantis hasn’t said he plans on running.
Otherwise, I like Trump and DeSantis.
Ron is young. He has time. Hope the party doesn’t fracture. Well of course it will. Let’s get Trump his well deserved second term. I’m not sure ifTrump voters can overcome the cheating, ballot box stuffing and Dominion voting machines. I live in Georgia and we still vote on them. It is horrible walking out of the polling precinct knowing your vote in probably hijenked
I used to hate living here because of the climate. Now I am very glad I live here because of the political climate.
