Dear Townhall readers,
You have probably noticed the recent changes today to our commenting system as reading, posting, and replying to comments are now exclusively for our VIP members.
Though the decision to make comments exclusive for our VIP members was a difficult one, it will allow us to get away from the censorship of Big Tech, as these accounts will be managed by Townhall Media directly. Through the direct support of our VIP members, we can do even more to fight back against the left while providing free speech to an exclusive conservative community free from leftist trolls, annoying spammers, and bots.
Big Tech and the left's assault on us has only just begun because we tell the truth they don't want the masses to hear. If you are not yet a VIP member, you can become one today HERE. Use promo code SAVEAMERICA for a 40% discount on your annual subscription. For less than a Bidenflated gallon of gas per month, you can become part of our club of patriots and support our conservative reporting.
For VIP members logging in to comment for the first time, you will notice that the name associated with your VIP account is the name that will display when you post your comments. Don't worry! This can easily be changed.
To change your display name to the one you held previously, click "My Account" at the top of the page and then "Comment Settings." There you can enter the display name your fellow conservatives know you by.
If you would like to change your profile image, you can do so by signing up at Gravatar.com using the same e-mail address.
To all of our VIP members, we appreciate your support and look forward to building this conservative community and creating an environment where free speech is respected and allowed.

Townhall, like others is moving toward a paywall. I guess all their clickbait ads are not enough to keep good columnist.
Too bad
RIP Hot Air. It had gone way downhill over the last year anyway. Hardcore Anti-Trump and pro forced vaxx. Multiple bots, trolls and spam accounts. After this I would be surprised if it has more than a couple dozen posters total. Sad ending to a once great site.
To clarify, Hot Air is part of the Townhall/Salem group of sites which adapted this change.
Eat s^^t and F^^k off!
I guess $ directly trumps traffic ad revenue.
American Thinker is much less valuable as a resource since they instituted a similar policy. I’d love to know how it’s working out for them. They have recently changed to comments being seen by all instead of only the paid subscribers perhaps to get back some traffic.
I don’t post there, but I refuse to pay any of them for content or to post comments . This is a good way to help the MSM and the democrats by putting up paywalls. People are not going to pay a bunch of separate sites to post there.
Actually, I think the Internet is a completely new “high tech market” and is insane. Paying for what you want could actually transform it into a “normal” market. A lot of crazy and manipulative stuff might go away. The same with “customers”.
I moved on from Townhall years ago.
I used to comment there back during Bush II when a lot of their columnists were backing Bush’s amnesty.
Lol. Now that’s what America is all about. Free speech for everyone I choose to let speak.
First, they charge you to comment. Next thing, they will be charging you for each and every article/column they post (they already do for some of them).
Salem media was all anti-Trump in 2015. They insisted their journalists and Radio hosts support the RINOs (Jeb, Kasich, Graham, Fiorina, Christie, Rubio, etc). However, they did manage to change their tune a bit after Trump won the nomination. But, I always find it disgusting when media owners insist their contributors follow their own political leanings to the point that their contributors don’t have a free thought in their heads.
Right. Isn’t that what we have condemned Facebook and Twitter for, picking and choosing whose postings will be allowed based on ideological agendas?
The only people who are going to pay are the competitor companies and paid political operatives/activists. Very few individuals care enough to pay to do so and even fewer would pay to read the articles.
This is unfortunate. I’m going to miss Kurt Schlichter’s snappy writing but I guess he likes to eat as much as the rest of us do. I doubt this works out in the long haul.
Looking back, I don’t think I’ve ever accessed Townhall’s home page. I always go there via articles I see posted here on FR.
They seem to make the ability to comment a really big deal. It isn’t. But it does increase their bottom line.
Would you morn Townhall if they went away? I wouldn’t.
I’ve noticed Kaslin hasn’t posted in a while. She posted every Townhall column, every day.
IOW you have to pay us to comment
Re: 14 - I believe you are correct. People would (hopefully) read the articles and then comment. But now that commenting is for paid subscribers, my guess is that their site traffic will drop off, perhaps quite a bit. Places like bearingarms will lose traffic to thetruthaboutguns (more than a few kooks at the latter), and TTAG has some solid articles.
I don’t think this works out well long term.
There isn’t anything I want to read there that bad, Who wants to have paywalls on every site? That would end sites like this one too.
