I understand the concerns about being “in an oppressed minority” though I don’t share them. First, there are enough westerners here that I don’t get stared at like I’m a space alien. Second, if something kicks off in the world, this is a place that is extremely unlikely to be attacked. Third, though a dollar collapse is a real concern, people here are very self sufficient and there is a degree of low level capitalism here that is completely missing from the West any longer. Can buy rice, eggs, chicken, veggies, fruit from the farmers who grow them...the town where I live is the squid capital and crab capital of Thailand...can and do go to the docks and buy straight off the boat.
Having said that, it can be a difficult adjustment as the culture is very different than the States.
