Exactly right. Living in the city detaches the family from the land - and after two or three generations things get turned upside down.

Carbon dioxide, for example, becomes a toxic substance. Work is thought of as punishment to be avoided. Everything is supposed to be play, play, play.

And I have noticed (as a former NYer), that city dwellers develop an attitude that only city dwellers like them are smart (i.e., country folks are idiots the way your mom and dad were idiots when you were in high school).

It's a defense mechanism against normal human insecurities.

Remember this painting, there's a lot of truth to it...
