No way should the west accept naked aggression for grabbing territory. 1992 or not. Lesson learned in WWII
Waht business is it of Russias?
the contested areas align with Russia and wish to succeed.
My goodness, that Arestovych was downright clairvoyant...:-)

@RnaudBertrand
This is Ukrainian presidential
advisor Oleksiy Arestovych in
2015.
He says that if Ukraine continues
down the path of joining NATO “it
will prompt Russia to launch a
large scale military operation [...]
before we join NATO”, “with a
probability of 99.9%”, likely “in
2021-2022”.

“An unnamed senior US defense official told The Washington Post that the cities of Severodonetsk and Lysychansk, which have seen some of the fiercest battles in recent weeks, could fall to Russia in the coming days.”
.
To me this sounds like globalist BS to feed the narrative of Russians performing below expectations.. The Ukes blew up their own bridge yesterday so these folks in the industrial area may plan to die there. Severo may hold out for much longer. L-chansk is on a hill with high value artillery positions . might take months to take that if a seige is necessary..I’m not buying this.
But a Phyrric victory at a high cost to men and equipment.
No they dont. Still doesnt give Russia the right.
Russia did not “ recognize” these oblasts as independent regions until this Feb, with the invasion. The Russian duma was actually more hardline on this than Putin,
Since 2014, when political protest unrest broke out over the US-orchestrated coup, Ukraine France and Germany were supposed to be working on the so-called Minsk agreement, which would have kept these oblasts as Ukrainian but with protection from attacks and with some form of autonomy in local political decisions, and political representation in Kiev. Both sides continually violated any ceasefire, and Zelensky gathered a large army in Donbass after January, preparing for a large March offensive. The number of ceasefire violations by Kiev went unprecedented.
This was preempted by the Russian invasion,
The only question now is whether these 2 regions will choose to remain independent Republics, or join the Russian Federation. Now, at least 2-4 other oblasts are announcing they wish to become part of Russia.
“NATO is escalating tensions”
More like the US and its lapdog the UK are escalating tensions, the other NATO countries are staring an economic collapse in the face. Despite all the rhetoric, Europe is screwed if they cut off Russian energy, there’s just no easy replacement for those pipelines, the infrastructure to receive it from elsewhere just isn’t there. And Russian oil is of a special blend that Europe requires that can’t currently be substituted with oil from elsewhere without a huge investment in upgrading their refining and processing plants. It’s no joke, Europe is economically screwed if this war continues.
Ask Serbia if they agree with that.
Actually, once the Republics declared their independence, they did have the right under UN Charter to request international assistance, and Russia had the right to provide it.

After weeks of silence about casualties, key Ukrainian presidential advisers have admitted in the past week that as many as 150 are being killed in fighting every day and 800 wounded.
“When they capture the entire region, and it is safe from continued Ukrainian shelling, this war can and will end.”
So that will be the end of Putin’s territorial demands?
[“It [the Sudetenland] is the last territorial claim that I have to make in Europe.” - Adolf Hitler, 1938.]
Short of thermal nuclear war, what is the “west” going to do about it?
Europe depends on Russian energy and food to survive. They will not starve in the dark for the Ukraine. The US... Well let’s just say the US isn’t a factor on the world stage right now. After 20 years of COIN, diversity, and using mercs we are a decade or more from being able to fight a near peer.
Same as WWII, you trade territory for time. No way out of it.
Supply Ukraine everything they need to defeat the Russians.
Europe will not starve.
“After 20 years of COIN, diversity, and using mercs we are a decade or more from being able to fight a near peer.”
Depressing. We are already well on the way to losing the petro dollar, reserve currency and control of world banking. Guess I’ll have to add losing our military superiority to the list of evidence our hegemony is a thing of the past, too.
We have a lot of adjusting to do...
They overrun FR periodically when there's a presidential "election", telling us not to believe our lying eyes.
Every day I get some one telling me that Chinese tourist babies are eligible to be President just because they were born here.
strategically important Donbas region

Its not strategically important, its an Orc propaganda talking point, if you like pyric achievements.
