If they go total state murders, California is #1 at 2368. The top ten states break out 60% Dem and 40% Republican.
That's not an accurate way to depict the severity and or frequency of crimes.
That's why the use per capita. If you have a town of say 1,000 people with 10 murders as opposed to a town with 50,000 with 10 murders, your chances of being murdered in the smaller town of 1000, is significantly greater.
