Biden says federal government will fund New Mexico wildfire recovery (Feds ignited this wildfire)

SANTA FE, N.M. (Reuters) -The U.S. government will fund New Mexico's full wildfire response, President Joe Biden said on Saturday, speaking from Santa Fe amid anger from survivors over the blaze that was started by federal officials.

"We have a responsibility to help the state recover," Biden told elected officials and emergency responders at an afternoon briefing in New Mexico's capital, where he was reviewing efforts to fight the Southwestern state's biggest blaze in recorded history.

"Today I'm announcing the federal government's covering 100% of the cost," the president said, though earlier in the day he had said he would need congressional approval for some funding.

"We will be here for you in response and recovery as long as it takes," he said, adding that he saw an "astounding" amount of the perimeter of the territory that had burned while flying to Santa Fe.

"It looks like a moonscape," Biden said.

Driven by drought and wind, the fire has destroyed hundreds of homes in mountains northeast of Santa Fe since two prescribed burns by the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) went out of control in April.

The White House said in a statement that Biden's order would cover "debris removal and emergency protective measures" for 90 days, a period to act as a bridge between emergency operations and possible further congressionally mandated assistance.

"This additional support will help ensure that New Mexico has no financial limitations related to immediate lifesaving and life sustaining operations related to the ongoing wildfires," it said.

Biden told staff at an emergency operations center shortly before he was expected to meet families who had lost homes to the fire that he would support any congressional bill to allow people to completely rebuild.

For a minute there I thought no mention of global warming but they squeezed this in towards the end

...underlining concerns that climate change is intensifying fires that overwhelm firefighters and threaten to eventually destroy most forests in the U.S. Southwest.

I guess the Feds aren’t content with limiting their sabotage to food processing plants and conventional energy producers.

Fires occur naturally for millennia and fail to destroy the forests but now they do destroy them? Gee, I wonder what that is?

One was a zombie fire, set in January, which smoldered for months before flaring up in 50+ mph winds. What did Smokey the Bear say about campfires?

Albuquerque paper had a good story about tensions between the USFS and locals. This area has been settled in 1700s by Spanish settlers and descendants. Historically, they managed forests by removing dead wood for firewood. USFS stopped that, because they know better. Fuel built up to dangerous levels, so USFS burned it. Same USFW that almost burned Los Alamos to the ground some years back.

I have fought, and met with congress critters and bitched and moaned along with my forester friends about the incompetence of the USFS for so long that it is not funny.

We all now say this..

LET IT BURN. ALL OF IT.

The only way this stops..including oil and mineral leasing, is to take to management of that trust away from the federal government and turn it into the hands of the local counties. COUNTIES! COUNTIES! COUNTIES! Not the state, because you will have the same scum destroying natural resources like the feds are now. All federal lands are managed under a public trust.

Just remember this..20% of all proceeds from Federal revenues..timber sales, etc, was to be turned back to the local schools systems.
Is that happening?

People are ignorant.

“Same USFS that almost burned Los Alamos to the ground some years back.”

“We will be here for you . . . as long as it takes.”

Isn’t that what Biden told our citizens and allies in Afghanistan last year?

They will fund the RESPONSE???

That means they will reimburse other states for sending in firefighters.

How about making whole all those who lost assets to the fires-—which are ENTIRELY the fault of the USFS.

"Biden says federal government will fund..."

You mean American taxpayers will pay out of the ass for the Federal government's stupidity.

"forest service has been "woke" for a long time"

Perhaps the forest service is being used for all those "controlled burns" of commercial food, and distribution plants across the country.
